Hand-painted bottles

Hand-painted bottles as a souvenir from Siem Reap and Angkor

At Sombai, the hand-painted bottles are made by young Cambodian artists. They represent several typical themes specific to the region: the temples, of course, and also the Apsara dancers, the Cambodian countryside and daily activities on the Tonle Sap Lake. All these images are captured as souvenir, a memento from your stay in Siem Reap.

Sealed with a screwed top and offered in locally-made palm leaf boxes, the bottles have travelled safely all over the world. The palm leaf boxes (also called smock) are typical of Cambodia as the palm tree is the national tree here. They are coloured with natural pigments making it a gorgeous gift box.

The bottles also are colourful, proudly ‘wearing’ a traditional krama on the cap or around the bottle neck. The Sombai painted-bottles enable you to bring back home souvenirs or offer a wonderful gift both very original and unique. Moreover, we offer some small fit-for-carry-on luggage bottles. This will allow you to bring it back even if you do not have any check-in luggage.

More than a plain bottle

Once the bottles are emptied, you can easily re-used it to decorate your home while reminding you of the Wonders of Cambodia. This is a responsible way to avoid wastage and protect the environment.

Interested in taking a souvenir from Siem Reap back home?

Feel free to come to our workshop or on the souvenir markets downtown for a free tasting. There you can choose the flavour that you prefer and the painting that you like the most. You can also come to the workshop and see the painters at work.

  1. Hi

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your interest in Sombai.
Our presence in Phnom Penh is limited for the moment, but we plan to improve it by the end of the year.
So basically, if things develop as schedule, it could be a good idea to be present at your Xmas Fair.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    1. Dear Kandis,

Actually we cannot ship any liquid or alcoholic drink from Cambodia.
Nevertheless, we can still send empty painted bottles, or jars with spices (e.g. with Cambodian Pepper) or alcoholic jam (our latest product). But usually the price of the shipping is usually higher than the price of the products itself ($55 for 500g sent to the US, $76 for 2kg, $110 for 4kg, $135 for 5kg), given that 1 empty bottle or 1 jam jar weight almost 500g.
So, it is up to you to decide if the final price would be fair or too high.

      Best regards,
